Filippo Brunelleschi Perspective drawing for Church of Santo Spirito in Florence c. 1428
I remember in sixth class in primary school we were being taught about perspective in art. We basically drew one horizon line across the page, and then drew lines from the middle of this line coming out at an angle to reach the bottom of the page. Here’s the kind of thing we’d do because I cannot explain this well and I am A VISUAL LEARNER.
Filippo Brunelleschi is the lad who we’re told came up with this whole concept. He was predominantly an architect but also made sculpture and has some drawings. Before linear perspective (and Brunelleschi) paintings were flat and two dimensional and pretty hilariously lame. Brunelleschi gave us DEPTH and I think that’s pretty cool! I really like this drawing because you can kind of see the lines drawn and the picture filled in kind of in the same way we did in primary school. There’s a method to it!
I went to a comedy gig the other night and the comedian said that he accidentally dropped a satsuma into a big tub of hummus and that it was the quietest thing he had heard in ages. I can’t stop thinking about what that would sound like. Very dissatisfying, I’m sure.
Congrats you’ve made it to the end! Todah Rabah.
