Joan Miró, L'Été, 1938
It really is so cool how contemporary this looks. This genuinely could have been made in 2022 by some digital illustrator with 40k instagram followers. Miró was a big man for shapes, primary colours and beautifully balanced compositions. Most of his work isn’t for me. They’re all a bit loud and chaotic and trippy, in a bad way, not a good way.
THIS ONE though, is cute and fun. I love the sad, weird clown-y man who looks like he’s trying to grab the moon out of the sky. It kind of looks like he’s squashed the tiny guy at the bottom with his big feat. I am VERY into the weird white bird with the strange body. It’s all so cute! Nice one, Miró.
Not to brag, but all going to plan, you’ll be getting this in your inboxes while I am lying on a beach in Mexico. I’m a big advocate of holidays. Take em. We need more of them. The main reason I feel so disconnected from my fellow man is because of all of that research showing that employees at companies with unlimited annual leave actually take less time off. Who are these nerds? Why are they not taking days off? The rest of us are here saving them up, counting our limited holidays like creepy misers.
Congrats you’ve made it to the end! Todah Rabah.
