Vivian Suter, Installation view: Vivian Suter with Elisabeth Wild: La Canícula, 2018
I think this counts as an exhibition of many works of art, instead of the usual one work of art that I give but I don’t think I’d like any of these paintings half as much if they weren’t all together like this. I think Elisabeth Wild is Suter’s mother which is so cute. Lil family exhibition! I LOVE seeing art bunched together, like they’re in a crowded room, hanging out, at a family reunion perhaps.
Vivian Suter makes these real nice colourful works and presents them dangling from the ceiling. They remind me of a washing line, or droopy leaves on a branch. Suter works in Guatemala and uses tropical colours, inspired by the environment around her. Part of her process is leaving her works outside, exposed to the elements. So, as well as being nice abstract paintings, they also have dirt, twigs and paw prints in them. I love this so so much. Makes them come alive even more! Put your art in the garden for a bit and see what happens!!
ANOTHER YEAR! Happy 2023, friends. I don’t know about you but I am currently having RESOLUTIONS rammed down my throat from every direction. I am here to advocate for NO RESOLUTIONS. Or, if you must, I will accept ‘Be Sound’ & ‘Have Fun.’ We spend our whole tiny, dumb lives striving to be whatever people are telling us “better” is and I just think we all need to relax. Nothing good will come from this unnecessary strive for perfection, especially in this cold, dark month. Here’s to a year of eating and drinking whatever we want, moving our bodies if/when they need it, sleeping, laughing, being kind to ourselves and having a great ole time.
Congrats you’ve made it to the end! Todah Rabah.
